Rarely does a song come together with the seamless roll we hear with Saint Jaimz’s “AWOL (Absent Without Love)”. This performer, a sixteen year Army veteran, has made astonishing progress since first emerging and his intimate, thoughtful confluence of an entertaining form like R&B couples up well with a lyrical sensibility that connects with listeners yet is clearly a cut above the customary work in this area. Jaimz aspires to imbue a personal message of some sort in each of his songs and succeeds in depicting a situation when you realize how you’ve held on too long with someone who, in the end, drained your joy for life. This might sound like a downer in terms of subject matter, but Jaimz makes it a surprisingly exultant affair, cognizant of the pain, but ready with the will and strength to move on.

DawgGonDavis Drops the Hammer!

URL: https://dawggonedavis.com/

I don’t know for certain if DawgGonDavis is secretly masterminding a plan to take over the hip-hop charts with her new four song extended play Anthem Pandemonium, but even if she’s just out to spread the word of Operation Breakthrough and their crucial work to stamp out domestic poverty her latest release is more than worth your time. I first became familiar with DGD’s music through the single “Butt on Fiya,” which is included in Anthem Pandemonium I might add, and haven’t been able to look away from her career since. She’s funny, smart and a lot more adept at making intricately complex rap songs than you might expect from an IT project manager, but that’s the whole point of her music. She wants you to question the stereotypes and stigmas that you attach to people, illnesses and even culture itself and reassess your opinions. There really is no better way to get people to change their evil ways then through the power of comedy and music, and thankfully DGD is highly equipped to do both brilliantly.

AV Super Sunshine drops Time Bomb

AV Super Sunshine drops Time Bomb

AV Super Sunshine has built one of the strongest reputations in the EDM style as a performer and composer unwilling to limit himself. The Wisconsin based AV’s renown is rightly derived from his talent merging pure electronica with an undeniable rock spirit in a seamless way. There’s nothing jarring about the club or radio mix for AV’s latest single “Time Bomb”. The former is, naturally, longer than the latter, but we never get any sense of self indulgence from either of these performances. Instead, remix master Michael Bradford, a DJ renowned for his aforementioned talent as well as a producer, has reshaped AV’s creative vision in unexpected ways while still preserving the artistic center at the heart of the AV Super Sunshine experience.

Young Saint Nick feat.
“HER” is the kind of hip hop track anyone with an open mind can get behind. Young Saint Nick, working with friend and collaborator Victor Ardene, are prepared to branch out globally from their Newmarket, Ontario background into the larger music world with a pumping, groove oriented single built around their love of women. They have come a long way since first finding their love for hip hop during their teen years, but this new single advances their talents in a vivid way – it mixes their obvious hip hop style with a massive chorus they pummel into listeners head without ever losing a grip on the necessary musicality they need to win the most fans possible. Those familiar with the duo will love this new cut, and those first coming to their music will be blown away by how much this comes off as a mind-blower from a longtime performing unit.

NIK:11 delivers amazing 4PLAY

URL: https://www.nik11.com/?release=4-play

NIK:11 exerts her dominance over the techno world with her single “4Play,” a thought-provoking interpretation of electronica and deep house music that is quickly becoming one of the most talked about songs of 2018. Critics and disciples of electronic music have already known for some time now that NIK:11 was on the verge of the breakthrough of this caliber, but at last with “4Play” her sound finally matures into its own and becomes completely distinctive from everyone else in her scene, generation and hometown of Detroit, Michigan. I had a chance to preview this track ahead of its release, and while I certainly expected to like what I heard, I had no idea just what kind of treasure I was really in for.

Willie J Drops New Single

Willie J Drops New Single

Thanks to the innovations within the tech world, it’s never been easier to record music in high definition, studio-quality audio from virtually any venue you can think of. Gone are the days where musicians were slaves to the soundboard, sweating it out in the claustrophobic confines of a soundproofed room while they’re trying to hash out their craft from scratch. As great as this revolution in grassroots ethos has been for connecting international audiences with previously removed, isolated indie artists, it should be said how much more competitive the industry has become as a result of this massive influx of new talent. With that considered, Willie J’s most recent collaboration with legendary boxer and gifted singer Arthur Anthony, “Sunshine With the Rain,” goes above and beyond in captivating listeners with its intrepid, full-color audio and enchanting harmonies presented in stereo.

Conceptz – Splash

Conceptz – Splash

The single “Splash” from Orange County, New York based hip hop acts Conceptz is an impressive new achievement for the brothers Short Fuze and Highrowglyphfix. They work alongside Grammy winning Benny Blanco with this song and it results in one of the most infectious, fun hip hop tracks emerging from either the mainstream or indie scene in recent memory. The subject matter is rather traditional as it celebrates sex with just enough innuendo to communicate its message and never lapses into the sort of off-putting crudity often alienating wider listening markets. However, it does get across its bawdy spirit with a smooth, surprisingly soulful musical arrangement that the vocals dance over with supreme confidence.

Crack of Dawn is back!!!

URL: https://crackofdawnband.com/

A bold organ. Smooth humming. The squeal of a funky, wah-wah laden guitar. Pouncing of the percussion, and we’re off and running. “It’s Alright,” a mid-album slice of pure soul off of Crack of Dawn’s new LP Spotlight doesn’t waste any time getting us into the groove of things and taking us to a gravity free space where we can sail in between the melodies like we’re just another note resonating from the band’s amplifiers. If you’re getting the impression that there’s quite the psychedelic bend to Spotlight, then I’m doing a good job with my description. To say that psychedelia tinged funk ala George Clinton wasn’t a contributing influence on these cats would be a far stretch of the imagination, and Crack of Dawn doesn’t have any problems admitting just as much in their music. In a celebration of love, life, laughter and whole lot of truth, the band crafts their melodies around their deeply soulful introspections, and the result is an intoxicating meld of intricately arranged, jazz inspired cerebral R&B that could give the style the shot of adrenaline that its desperately been needing in the last few years.

DawgGonDavis is BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

DawgGoneDavis is BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

Rebecca Rogers Davis works as an IT project manager during the day, but her life away from the 4o hour a week grind finds her taking on a very different identity. She expresses her lifelong love for music and composing under the persona of DawgGoneDavis. DawgGoneDavis has a playful take on hip hop tradition that aligns her, in some respects, with Weird Al Yankovich’s song parodies. Despite the light hearted nature of her songwriting, Davis is a deceptively astute songsmith who intuitively understands how to craft a catchy hook that lingers with listeners long after the song ends. Her latest release are a pair of singles entitled “Forever Music” and “Butt on Foya”, two songs building on the success of DawgGoneDavis’ first single “Middle Age Woman – Hip Hop Style” while solidifying her position as one of the best parodists on the indie songwriting scene today.

That Summer, Vol. 1 Compilation feat. 0 hype, Skinny Fresh, AntoineRNB

That Summer, Vol. 1 Compilation feat. 0 hype, Skinny Fresh, AntoineRNB

This has been such an epic year for hip-hop, from the inspiring number of new artists who have come out of the woodwork to the new, inventive promotors, producers and labels that are staking claim to the future of the industry as we know it. BWH Music Group is becoming one of the go-to sources for new content of all styles and varieties, and the label’s new comp That Summer doesn’t disappoint when it comes to showing off the highest caliber material their artists are coming up with these days, especially on the hip-hop and R&B front. I had a chance to preview That Summer before it hit the marketplace a little earlier this year, and although I’ve never been much for comps and mixtapes, I found what BWH had put together to be deeply compelling and required listening for any music enthusiast.

Nick Andre - “Guns” & “L.A.’s On Fire”

Nick Andre - “Guns” & “L.A.’s On Fire”

“Guns”, the first of Nick Andre’s two new singles we’re discussing, isn’t a bountiful musical feast and its primary element is the vocal track. Andre surprises listeners a bit with the chorus as the vocals cop a near R&B/gospel feel squarely at odds, yet remarkably sympathetic in this instance, with the solidly rap vocals during the song’s verses. The intensity is palpable despite this seemingly oddball marriage of styles. Andre’s ideas for the song are uniformly strong; a good example of that is how the chorus vocals swell when they return following the conclusion of the verses. Much of the song is built around this near acapella approach and the percussion gives it increased urgency. His production choices in that area are equally keen; the drums underline every vocal nuance in both styles.

“Thinking” by Edenn

“Thinking” by Edenn

“Thinking” is the debut track from Togo-born singer-songwriter, fashion designer, screenwriter and genuine citizen of the world, Edenn. He creates an exceptional listening experience in “Thinking” combining pop-dance, and electronic fusions. Now based in Europe, Edenn wrote the track after a fashion show and the outpouring of love he received. As it stands, not many of us can relate to putting on a fashion show, but nonetheless we often find ourselves in the equally relatable moment of sharing our love and thanks to those closest to us. Edenn seamlessly takes the lead.

Lauria releases new single “Losing Me”

Lauria releases new single “Losing Me”

Florie-Laure “Lauria” Zadigue Dubé, from Montreal, CA, debut single release “Losing Me,” is a remarkably well-written, produced and arranged track, especially for the first release. Having grown up around music via her uncle’s basement studio, it’s no wonder the song is so good because Lauria is certainly no stranger to music. The track shows so much promise it is bound to reach the masses in no time flat. It’s that fantastic for numerous reasons, starting with her hypnotic vocal delivery and ending with the right beats and melodies to round out what is ultimately a hot new single in which she can be proud.

Mike Ra “Dogs”

Mike Ra “Dogs”

The art form of protest music shouldn’t be relegated to strictly coffee house acoustic acts and raucous punk rock units who have no regard for the non-abrasive sensibilities of the current generation of music enthusiasts. When you think about it, music doesn’t even have to challenge the autocratic notion of established order in its lyrics to inspire a rebellion that will change the landscape of pop forever. We’ve seen countless soft rock acts leave an imprint on music that was just as insubordinate in its foundation as some of the raunchiest, most extreme of transmissions from the underground. And yet we still uphold this falsehood, this flat out fallacy, that to affect significant change in your scene, you have to be the loudest voice, the most noticeable explosion in a series of chaotic disasters to really get anyone’s attention enough to make a difference. That’s not only a completely irrelevant and fake news-influenced theory, but it’s dangerous to the development of independent music in the 21st century. “Dogs” the latest output from Canadian rhythmist Mike Ra, doesn’t wear a political motivation on its sleeve, but the overwhelming message in its lyrics is one of individuality and independence that has become synonymous with the current movement of indie rap artists both north and south of the U.S.-Canadian border.

SHAQ:MUZIK: "Let Me in Your Heart Again"

SHAQ:MUZIK: “Let Me in Your Heart Again”

A new release from singer, songwriter, and producer, SHAQ: Muzik, entitled, “Let Me In Your Heart Again”, is a passionate plea for reconciliation, a theme not unfamiliar to many. The sensitivity of the lyrics is only second to the artists satin voice, and sensual vocal textures.

The tract is immersed in powerful harmonies, luxurious tones, and powerfully relentless emotions. With his desire to reunite with a true love he once celebrated, his longing to reconnect is deeply felt throughout the song. The song could easily be converted to a short film. The salacious sultry tones of the artist matches the instrumentals in this laid back ballad, giving the listener hope for a second chance. The artist clearly paints a vivid picture of his romantic intentions through his lyrics, and this is a song that will stand the test of time. Once you listen to it, you will definitely remember it, as it is classic, infectious, addictive and memorable. A very difficult task in this day and age where music hits come and go faster than movies in the theatre. This is a song you will be listening to for a very long time.

Juan Rey Pop/Rock Music

Juan Manuel Rey has mastered of one of the most entertaining and nuanced styles of pop entertainment we’ve come across in recent years, and his new single ‘Era De Placer’ shows why you’ll be hearing a lot more of him. With undeniable vocal talent and fine-tuned production served straight up, Juan Manuel Rey is an artist that any pop music enthusiast will thoroughly enjoy. The success of his latest awarding-winning work has not gone unnoticed by the critics, with one recently writing: ‘To say this artist is proficient with the Latin pop idiom is not enough - listen to tracks like ‘Era De Placer’ to witness the delightful mayhem that issues forth when an expert sidesteps convention to conjure something new.’ Yet there’s something special about Juan Manuel Rey that sets him apart from other pop acts. In a musical generation characterized by manufactured pop acts, Juan Manuel Rey’s originality and sincerity do more than stand out. They reveal qualities that cannot be engineered in the studio. There’s also an unpretentious realness to this artist out of Buenos Aires, Argentina and judging by his growing fan base, he may be precisely what the new generation didn’t know it was missing. Independent reporter Blake Wright recently caught up with Juan Manuel Rey to get an inside look at this exciting new artist and to learn what he has in store for fans this year. BLAKE: Let’s just get this out in the open- What is the craziest thing that has happened to you in your music career?
Southern California’s Saint Jaimz logged almost twenty years in service to our country as an United States Army member and his resolute commitment to the uniform is likely to bolster his continuing efforts to construct a lasting music career. His full length collection Life Songs makes clear, on title alone, his primary ambition as a songwriter and performer – he wants to convey emotionally honest and credible material recalling the genre’s past glories while still existing in the present with a sound and style that will resonate with modern audiences. “Absent Without Love”, taken from the Life Songs collection, is a showstopper soul tune with some strong R&B strands as well coloring the performance and Jaimz owns the song with his own style and presence. It’s a powerful and deeply satisfying first 2018 single for Saint Jaimz and it’s sure to be followed by more to come.

Conceptz (featuring Cassidy) – Fall

Conceptz (featuring Cassidy) – Fall
