You get a dose of reality and a shot of excellence with Shooty Paid. “Broke Nigga!” has a lot of energy. It has a very communal feel to it, like you put it on and everyone at the party would chime in and sing along. With “#ThankYou!” you’re going to be trending thanks to the singing chorus parts that blend well with the slimmed down rhymes. The hype comes back with “BandzUp.” All in all Shooty Paid has a very youthful feel to his music. The music would play well on a mix with Wiz Khalifa and Tyga. When “Tired” started I wasn’t really feeling it, but as it played on it really grew on me like moss on a tree. The beat intertwined with the build up of the finesse and delivery really makes it a well-rounded joint in the end. K.R.W has a very southern feel to the music. Whenever you hear that build up in the music and then the lyrics are delivered in a chill but cool way, you can see the ATL. “Loud” follows that protocol. Is that where K.R.W hails from? We’re not entirely sure, but it sounds like it and that should be a compliment because a lot of talent comes from that area. The best part of this track is the beat. Get familiar with J.O.E.Y’s “Biggest Fan: Biggest Critic” record. We start things out slow with “G.M.T (All A Nigga Need).” In case you’re not in the know with the acronym, the song spells it out clearly; girl, money and team. When you’re young that seems to be all you need. That’s where this music is targeted at - those who are young and still learning the ways of the world. Stylistically “Dreams Money Can Buy” is great. The odd background noise in the music you hear slightly at the start and throughout pulls the curiosity out of you. Then we get to this chilled love track, “I Wanna Be You.” Vocally you’ll know it’s J.O.E.Y but musically it sounds like a different artist than the previous tracks. This only goes to show how eclectic this artist can be. His growth is throughout a record instead of a career. You have youthful hip hop intertwined with relaxed beats and then samples of pop tracks tossed in with “Deep” that samples the Adele hit. We pick things up as we roll on with “Rollin’” that steps it up energywise. The best though seems to be “Dreams.” The hook is stellar and comes through like perfection. They intertwine their influences and loves to bring forth a type of music that speaks louder than words. “Quiet Your Mind” is a quick fix for you that love hip hop. Out in Texas John Jay has mastered the art of work and play in hip hop. The intro to “The Answers” mixes R&B soul and an old school announcement and both work together to bring you to the track at hand. Jay really lays it out as he goes from verse to verse with ease. His flow is on point as we go from the attack on “Collection Plate” to asking if we like it in “Ain’t Gon’ Do It.” It’s been pretty similar sounding tracks but that’s until “Are You In” brought a sense of maturity to his sound. It was a bit like early Nas in a way. That sentiment continues as we get into the storytelling side of Jay with “Push Play.” Songs that make you move and send energy through you are fun and fine but these ones that show off the artistry of what he can do are what shine the brightest. Wavy Wyngz is a rapper who really goes above and beyond to get the job done. “T Dot” is a really uplifting and empowering song. It’s all about being able to overcome obstacles and doing it for yourself and not really out of spite or to show up anyone. It’s a great, positive message. He was modest in that one but then had to show himself some love with “Wavy Wyngz.” Everyone deserves to pat their own back every once in awhile, right? Then we head on into “F*** It I’m On” and it has this sort of rock vibe to it when it starts. You can hear this guitar like sound and then it has a very easy hook to learn. It’s not for the radio realm but would be a chill zone track for the club scene. Speaking of the club, it’s not an over the top booty shaking movement but “New Shit” has this beat to it that makes you want to move about in a very sensual way. The best thing about Wavy Wyngz is that each track is a new side of him, and they only get better. Carmen Skyy is a female emcee that has an huge amount of talent encased in her mixtape “Backstage.” The “Intro” sounds like something you’d hear in a movie. It’s less musical and more Lifetime biopic. Then the actual music settles in with the title track featuring Rheka. It doesn’t sound like a overly pop track, it has substance to it. Giel hops on to help with “Glitter” and unlike that Mariah Carey movie, this “Glitter” is something to put on repeat. Things do get a little pop, but more on the dance side of things with “I’m Ready.” I thought it was reminiscent of what Black Eyed Peas would spit out with Fergie delivering the rhymes. We get a hip hop fueled love song with “I’m a Believer” and then simplify things with “Be.” All in all “Backstage” wasn’t what you’d expect. When it’s easy for female emcees to fall into the same boat and be pushed out to sea, Carmen really does a good job defining her sound and style. Empire of God$ Play It Fast & Slow

Empire of God$ does it big in two big ways. “Wake&Bake” is a weird place to start out on but it works for a chill Sunday afternoon. You can’t beat having a track that delivers a good time in the form of song constructed of sly beats and relaxed overall aura. The herbal refreshments and feel continues with “Orange Juice & Weed Crumbs.” What’s really great about this one is that some may dismiss it because of the title, but it keeps it classy with the music and presentation. The same can be said of “Ode To My Bitch.” While the title doesn’t sound too flattering, you can’t help but get lost in the R&B influences here. It’s been a lot of that but then Empire of God$ brings more of a hip hop vibe with “Now (All I Know).” It just steps it up in terms of how much you can move to it. We continue on that path as we get well into “I Go Hard.” So it’s apparent that Empire of God$ has two speeds; chilled out and fast and slightly furious. David Dennis: Allure

David Dennis’s “Allure” isn’t your typical hip hop venture. The “Intro” of the record plays like a preview for what’s to come and sounds like a quick clip you’d see on YouTube for for an album. It’s less of an intro and more of a preview. From that I wasn’t expecting what came from “Enticement.” I thought this would be a party rock record but instead this song was well composed and showcased a musical maturity. That same mentality flows right into “Elevated.” The lyrics are more sensual than realistic than the last though. That chill factor keeps on going as we glide into “Disbelief.” The best of “Allure” comes with “Isolation.” Which is kind of ironic when you think about it. Today we’re here to dish about all the talent that comes from Old Yella Recordz. First up is the hype ways of Brizzal Bandana with a song that’s meant as a command to the ladies, “All 4.” What is great about this song is that you can instantly see a dance craze being formed from it. Then we calm down a bit with Swissa’s “Erythang iight” featuring Blackmike and White Boi Mike. This one still has a fresh beat that you can definitely get behind but it’s not as wild as what Brizzal was bringing. Northern California does have a hip hop scene and the latest from out there is Jimmy Goodz. “Red Leather” featuring Dej Loaf kicks things off in a smooth way. Dej really adds a pop of light into the mix. She sounded a lot younger than him though. With “Like Water” he teamed up with Hard Hitta. In this one the beat it picked up but it still has this laid back flow to it. Between the two, I’d take this one. I like the bounce it allows. Jimmy Goodz can stand out on his own too. Alone on “Bumgarner” he spits things out fast and you have to appreciate the Transformers play on words he tosses in. It’s quick, but if you catch it, you love the nostalgia. We get back to the friends with “Workout” and “The Method” with cameos by Roze and Bayon. On “Workout” it’s like something you’d hear on the radio, minus the f-bomb. Then with the other things are taken down. At this point it’s clear that Jimmy likes to keep things tight. Everything has a purpose in his music and he’s not just going to go off and get turnt up because that’s what’s going on in the scene. He’s playing it cool and it’s paying off. There have been a lot of men on here lately so it’s about time we get a female emcee in the mix. Today we’re focusing our attention on Cyzle. She’s bringing it, so prepare to receive it. “This is for the Ladies” bursts the gates open as you’re introduced to an artist who does not step lightly. It’s fast and fierce. What’s great about “Glad He Did” is that it’s not a song about a girl sitting around sad about a breakup, but an empowering song after a split. It’s different from the crowd and it screams “girl power.” As we go from a feminist anthem we head into “Taste! Proceed with Caution” and this one has an overall naughty, but nice feel to it. The sensuality cleans up with “Bye Bye Baby.” The beat has that R&B vibe, but it’s not a sexy song, but rather a heartfelt ditty. We have to wind down with “Victorious.” It’s not an ode to the Nickelodeon show, but it’s definitely a show stopper. Like with “This is for the Ladies,” this one is on the attack. Player Dee Heads for the Top

Player Dee is bound to be taking over the charts sooner than later. It’s always nice to get out the gate with a jam and that’s what happened when I hit play on the first track from this emcee. “Yo Body” doesn’t waste time getting to its point. It’s a song for a lady and it’s got a good beat and flows nicely. We go from praising the ladies to incorporating their vocals for the hood to “Smells Like Money.” Who doesn’t want to relate to this one? The same can be said of “We Gettin It” as well. Then we have Player Dee stepping it up with “Try.” This one ups the energy and it shows. We get cute with “Candy Cars.” It samples the classic “Candy Girls” and just puts a smile on your face with the beat alone. One of the best to come from this guy though is “All I Need.” It reminds me of something that throws it back old school - to maybe the early 2000’s - and would be a hit. The same kind of hits that’d constantly come with Ja Rule teaming up with Ashanti. Today we’re getting an array of artists from DA12WATCHPRODUCTIONS. I think “Carla Starr” is the best representation of who he is as an artist. It’s a fresh track that has an understated beat. Get In Touch with G-LAMAR

Ever heard of Lubbock, Texas? Well it’s where G-LAMAR is sitting spitting rhymes and just in time for you to check him out. “Swing My Way” has a great hook but the verses don’t quite match up. The hook comes through light while G-LAMAR comes at you very low key. When you get to “F.CK U” you get a more intense musical experience from this emcee. MURDA 1’s “Lost Soul” is a record overflowing with hits and jams. We kick off this record with the intro and it’s framed with intimidation but then a freestyle comes through and it plays out wonderfully as it goes into something a bit more constructed with a beat. It’s not exactly the John Travolta classic but this “Face-Off” is well, better than that weird movie. Anyways the delivery here is what’s key. I like the pace at which MURDA 1 brings the words to the forefront. There are a lot of great guests on this record from Skoob & Redd on “No Other Way” to just Redd on “My Gang.” That one really gets to the point with repetition. C Physics Dreams Big

Out in Ohio sits C Physics and he’s trying his best to make his presence known world wide. “This is Real Life” is all about that sentiment. Everyone with a dream of skipping out on their own town for the big time can relate to every word in this one. Failure is not an option when it comes to going for your dream. With “Take It Slow” you don’t get that universal “I can do it” attitude, but you do get a song that has a R&B base and a sensual feel. The intro of “Dreamers” is good with the monologue but we go back to that universal feel of “This is Real Life” with “Dreamers.” It is a very positive message to deliver to the masses. What was unexpected though from C Physics? This homage to “Seinfeld” at the start of “More Than Friends.” Hey, that’s what’s great about hip hop, the influences and samples can come from anywhere and it works. We get a little hard with “Don’t Sleep.” This one stands out from all of the above because it’s not a sexy song or one that’s about making it. It just has a great beat and the rhymes stand up tall. Rabanales’ “Real Hip Hop” comes at you from Tennessee. The record kicks off with “Alpha Omega.” The most interesting part of this song is that old school record player feel it has. The background music makes it sound like it’s an album spinning on a record player from the prohibition era. “I Need You” also has this classic feel to it. Rabanales really knows how to pay homage to what came before him. The rhymes are great, but what is really great about this EP is that old school vibe. Rod is an emcee who isn’t afraid to go for it. “Wake Up” featuring Ruthy La La is a fast paced ride. It’s a look at the world and what’s going on and the problems there are out there and Ruthy helps string together Rod’s words with a beautiful, soulful performance. In “Because To God JESUS I Pray” has him bringing that same rhyme game you heard in the latter but then his pals featured on this one make it have this unexpected Reggae vibe. We step away from all that to get into “Fight’n Words.” This one has the best beat of the bunch. Bio Organic Weaponry sounds like it’d be this industrial rock band that’d tour with either Marilyn Manson or Nine Inch Nails, but nope - that’s not the case. It’s a hip hop group that comes hard with their album “Bio Organic Weaponry vol. 1.” They open the record with “Liquor & Death” and it’s not hard to hear each individual in the group. Sometimes with ensembles it is hard to identify who’s who but not here. Masta Ace hops on “Subconscious Theatre” and I love this one just because of the cool cat jazz-like intro. It was unexpected and that’s always a good thing that’s appreciated. What I heard hear is that Bio Organic Weaponry kind of reminds me of House of Pain. Speaking of unexpected, “The Escape Plan” has a Reggae feel to it and stands out above the rest when it comes through. They group is joined by Khase and Big Tone for “Pyramid” and it is nothing more or less than a grand slow jam. Fitting for Halloween we have “Eulogy of a Dead Memory.” I really like the lyrics of this one and the beat makes this one easy to follow and really take in. Big Tone’s back on “All Seeing Steez” and instantly you can hear the sample they’re using and if you don’t recognize it, please refer to your ’90s catalogue and study. You can’t hate any song that pays respect to the great TLC. Another homage they did? Um, “Betty White.” This may be the first time the Golden Girl may have been mentioned in hip hop and it’s awesome. U.S.G. is doing it up and bringing both sides to the table. “Neva Fold” features the likes of Phoenix, Swan Gody, Mega and T.W.O. What it is all about is never folding and giving up. It’s a good positive message set to a beat that sounds very hard but really it’s an enlightening song that could bring a sense of understanding to someone feeling low. We get into what really makes U.S.G. pop though when we roll up on “Spills I Wanna Rock.” We hear how fast his can come at you. He wastes no time and has a very interesting choice of an intro when it comes to “Let The Show Begin.” You just never know how a hip hop song is going to unfold but it’s always a pleasant surprise when you start to peel back the paper and get a song like this and ones like “Rain on Em” and “Line Em Up.” 2Shot produced “We Ain’t All Perfect Papers” and Scrills hops on to help out his boy U.S.G. This one had more of a realistic tone and tells a telling story. It’s eye opening to the real struggles people face. That’s really the hip hop that’s always the most interesting to hear. Currently though you can hear U.S.G. promoting two singles that are bound to take hip hop over. “That 30” sounds a little like a more audible Pitbull when it starts and the other is repping where U.S.G. calls home, “Bklyn Finest.” With Swan Gody, Mr. Spills, T.W.O., Yung Mega, Papers and YP you can be for sure that this one is hard to dismiss. Eliot Ness has a lot of friends in high places but can do his own thing when put to the test. “Cadillac” featuring NIQ and Paul Wall comes across as a good joint to get behind. It has a good Cash Money sounding flow to it. Then you have Scotty Boi, T. Berry and DJ Sky High lending a helping hand to “Money Calls.” I like this one. It has a subtle freshness to it. With so many emcees on one track, it could sound overcrowded, but it doesn’t. It’s well balanced like a healthy meal. “We On” kind of follows the same formula as the last while “I’m Me” lets Eliot Ness shine on his own. No featured artists, just him and he does a good job without anyone else but it is nice to have friends around, right? “Boss” has a more R&B feel than anything else and it’s a nice break in between all the hip hop. Tru Def is a young emcee who sounds like he’s been doing this since ‘93. When Tru Def hit up RAW in Dallas he not only demanded attention from the crowd, but took it with an explosive performance. That’s something to respect from a hip hop artist. The one’s that can go onstage solo and take control, that’s impressive and respectable. Then when you get to his music offstage, he still commands that attention. Songs like “King Of The Hill” regulates and really captures you with a simplicity. He really likes the idea of royalty as we get into “King.” This one has a great hook in it that you can hear throughout. It kind of is this omnipresent feature. “Another One” kind of passes you by but then “Bout Dat Life” pulls you back in with it’s hard hitting pace. We go from that hard hitting track to one that scales it down a bit, “Do Me.” It’s definitely one of those songs that will get stuck in your head because it’s easy and very memorable. Official G.A.R. has a lot to offer but we’re going to focus on his record “Mr. Altamirano.” “Run This City” breaks down what it takes to have a firm grasp on your city. It comes at you with a rapid fire delivery at times but there is a fair balance. I like how “Versace Control” grabs your attention in the intro and then how it comes to a halt and transforms into a song that sounds anew. It was hard to get into “In The Cut” because the beat just wasn’t as attention holding as some of the others. The lyrics were tight but the beat, no so much. I’d like to hear this spit out freestyle. With “Thomas Aquinas” you get a little experimental side from Official G.A.R. It sounds weird and out of character, ironically enough it sounds like he is playing someone else. Stepping away from that we got “3AM In Dallas.” This track takes us back to why we like this emcee. It has a fast approach and comes across as fresh. Dubbstyle comes at you from College Station and does it so at his own pace. “Take a Chance” kicks things off for us nice and slow. The flow is not over the top and it actually sounds like it could be a R&B track due to the music but you can hear that hip hop flow just fine in the delivery. This style seems to just be how Dubbstyle rolls because you get the same thing more or less with “Life on Hold.” Although it sounds similar, the story is different than the last. I do like that we got something a with a little more energy with “Thugs Repent” but it wasn’t too much. He keeps true to who he is while switching it up just a bit. But then we get to “Do It 2 ‘Em” and here something out of the ordinary we’ve come to know as Dubbstyle. This one is more aggressive and in your face than the others. The same can be said of “Smash on Em.” Then we head out on “Fadin.’” This song takes us back to the point where we started; chilled hip hop. In the end I have to say that I like when he keeps things relaxed. It helps you really hear the lyrics and take them in. Hood Ninjas’ “Infinite Sphere” is a great collection of artists showcasing a particular skill and bringing that to the forefront to create a captivating hip hop track. Brokenglazz’s “Ear Candy” is smooth and sweet rap music. So you have a song called “My Chickens.” This raises eyebrows and you can do nothing but dive in with an open mind. L.X.G. is all about letting you know what’s what and does it in a professional manner. “Re Up” featuring Bluntz is a very raw track. L.X.G. gets a little more constructed with “Creative Minds.” This one slows it down a bit from the last in the verses at first but then the beat speeds up and so does his delivery a bit. In the mix and at the end of our time together we’re getting to know a little more about L.X.G. by presenting his well, you know. “This My Shit” has a repetitive nature and isn’t about getting some deep message across but rather getting stuck in listeners’ heads on a loop. V12 Gets Nasty

V12 comes at you from the streets of Raleigh. “T.N.O.” translates to “trust no one” and it’s a message that’s not delivered loud and clear but rather in a way that plays it kind of low key. The atmosphere changes a lot with “Drop.” The last song has this dark feel to it, while this one sounds like a life of the party and it is. It sounds like V12 is trying to start a movement, well some sort of dance move with it. Attitude comes back in full force with the intimidation of “What Dey Say.” The lyrics in the verse have anger to them, but the chorus is more sing-song in nature. One of the best coming from V12 is “Lil Mama Bad.” Why? Well this joint has what makes a hip hop track stand out - good beat, catchy feel and it makes you bounce. Another mom centric song is “Yeah Mama” and it could do without the crying at the start. RandiVision Claims Greatness

It does not matter who stepped onto the court before or who has after, there will never be someone as significant in the sport of basketball as Michael Jordan. From his shots to his shoes, the hip hop community has really taking a liking to him over the years and RandiVision is no different. That is why it is not surprising that he made a song about the greatest player of all time called “MJ23.” Well it’s not about him, but more a comparison to the basketball player. When you view yourself as the top dog - who else is there to compare yourself to? Exactly. As for the song, the beat is good but it’s the delivery of the lyrics that really send this one home. That’s not all this emcee has up his sleeve though. The real root of what makes this artist stand out sits within the rest. “Quantum” has this interesting element that makes it memorable. It doesn’t do it the whole time, but when RandiVision goes up at the end of each line at the end of one of the earlier verses, it makes an impression that’s lasting. What is good about “Comput3d” is that it’s slow enough that those who aren’t quick with their tongue can rap along. “Purple Cloudz” isn’t the strongest of the batch. This one fell a little flat to what came before it. Keeping with the colorful titles, we’ll wrap this up with “Blue Dolpinz.” This is a great note to end on. Phelo The Great is a well polished rapper who has fine lines but still brings that edge. “The Thrill of It” is what life is all about for this artist. Vino hustle is perfectly named because he hustles them rhymes for days. “Rap Fanatic” has a good beat while the lyrics sort of ramble out and you have a wide range of thoughts on one plain. With “Pull My Card” the start sounds like it’s working its way up to something but the song plays in chill mode, which was cool to hear. Loung helps out on “Loud Grind.” Again, great beat and the lyrics come at you in a chill pace but you can hear the intimidation in what they’re saying. Skittles isn’t just a rapper, but a singer and performer. “The Best Song Ever” isn’t a cover of that One Direction chart topper, but you’ll soon forget that pop tune once this one enters your life. It comes at you like a shark attack - fast and unexpected. With “Nobody Ever Gives a Fuck” the intro definitely doesn’t add up to the f-bomb in the title as it comes across like an elegant piece on piano. Then when he drops that first line, things align. “She’s Not a Virgin Mary” didn’t really stick out like the rock infused “Something Bad You’ve Made” did. It samples a Linkin Park track from their first, and best, album “Hybrid Theory.” This one gets an A+, as does the other rock infused “I Can’t Find a Reason.” Much like the thought that ran through my head with the first track, I was like…Is this “Delilah” a cover of that Plain White Ts’ track? Dat Bul is a force to be reckoned with on the mic. His buddy Jai comes through on “Falling Down.” This one is a slow paced track that picks up soon after it starts in a bit of an aggressive manner. Things smooth out when “Sometimes I Talk” comes around. This one really showcases the person behind the lyrics well. “Since I Started” has a great bounce to it that makes you just bob your head to every lyric escaping his lips. With “I Like Dis” things get a bit more in your face, but just a bit. Dat Bul comes across a little more aggressive but not in a Busta Rhymes way, just takes more charge than the other tracks we’ve heard thus far. Kaby: Just Because

Kaby’s record “Just Because” is totally unlike anything in the hip hop realm right now and should be appreciated. “Tea Time At The Apollo” has this omnipresent start that sends chills down the spine and then the cool delivery sets in and it plays like a person who knows they have got that it factor and it goes into a sample of Mariah Carey’s “Make It Last” which was unexpected but a delight. “I Don’t Know” follows that same cool beat but this one doesn’t have as much swag as the last. You come to expect a calm demeanor from Kaby but “Crazy, Happy Times with You” sounds more like the start of a black and white foreign film with its melancholy intro, rather than a rap song. It’s quite beautiful and the difference makes you only appreciate this record more. K3 does something with his hip hop that’ll be greatly appreciated by listeners who like something new. “Signals” starts out with this beautifully sung intro and then goes into a hip hop flow that’s just as good. “Krow” also incorporates a different genre at the start, this time an old soul song and then the music that follows still has that pace but the lyrics come a little harder than the last. By the time “Over & Over” comes through, you’re used to the way K3 lays things out. It’s nice to hear the mixture of two genres in each, while most are R&B – it’s always nice to guess how each with start. This element really makes this emcee stand out in the best way possible.
